PART ONE

THE CHILDREN OF THE FALSE DARKNESS

For a long time man has been making the mistake of calling the perversion of occult power BLACK MAGIC. This is an inadequate acceptance of the word BLACK, because black does not necessarily mean perverse. Black is the colorless foundation of things; it is the source of all being and represents the body of Absolute Intelligence. All consciousness and all light have arisen from the darkness of chaos, and the Cosmic Night - with its dark Pralaya - is the Father-Mother of Creation. Black darkness cloaks the work of the Infinite, and despite any light that may exist in the human soul, it will always be surrounded by darkness, by the seething substances of chaos. Every manifestation is a concretion of darkness, and an immeasurable possibility.

2.- The CHILDREN OF THE OBSCURE ORIGIN,

who elaborate in the darkness of this substance, molding it into myriads of invisible and incalculable forms, are not perverse. They are the children of Saturn (Satan), the Black Father who, like the blackness of chaos itself, will end up devouring his own works, and, in doing so, brings them back to life by removing them from that death which men call creation. We all come from that black abyss and we have no right to consider it evil; it is the father of gods and men, always wrapped in the inscrutable mantles of its own mystery. Man must extract the stone of his own soul from that abysmal blackness - unfathomable chest of Nature's treasures - just as the miner extracts the diamond from the black coal that envelops it.

The dark LORDS OF SATURN are the builders of the dawn of the first light after darkness, and from the friction of their efforts arose the first glittering sparks of embryonic consciousness. They are the Born of Mind, and they are the Brahmins of our chain of Globes, arising from the brain and mouth of Brahma. Its trunk is made of substances and chemical elements of solid matter.

They are the satanic emanations, the spirits of the cold darkness.

The laws of Nature do not obey man. They know neither virtue nor sin. Like the Greek Cyclops, with only one eye, they are giants that fulfill their prearranged purpose, unmoved by the good or bad use of their power. The sage is subject to the laws of the energy he is employing and thereby makes them agree to work for him. But as soon as he breaks the laws governing the energies he is controlling, they will turn against him and destroy him without discrimination or scruple.

74. An occultist is an expert in the science of life. As an operative magician he can manipulate the forces of Nature for the satisfaction of any purpose he sets himself.
But woe betide him whose ends are not in harmony with the plan of Nature! With his powers he can work miracles, like the magicians of India; but his feats appear as miracles only to those who do not know as he does the laws relating to the subtle forces of Nature.

The dominion which knowledge gives over ignorance on the spiritual planes is far greater than that which wealth gives over poverty on the physical plane. Wealth can be a blessing or a curse, the same as knowledge, which is mental wealth. The wise will always be superior to the ignorant, because he possesses a mentality capable of commanding respect, and the ignorant must bow to what he does not understand. In all ages, a few have achieved the actualization of the tremendous powers of Nature, and in one way or another, legitimate or not, have become momentary holders of the serpentine zero. Someone can steal money and remain rich until he falls at the disposal of the law, and so, in the same way, a black magician can steal a certain amount of money from the law and amount of divine power and employ it for the satisfaction of their own ends until in the end, the abuse of power will be the cause of their own destruction.

In our modern world, black magic finds fertile soil in the desires of man. Age after age, his own desires annihilate him. In his ignorance, he plays with fire and is astonished that tempests are unleashed over his head and that lava and volcanic ashes bury his cities, that war rages in his fields and that powerful cataclysms make continents and nations disappear in a day. It does not obey the laws of forces, nor does it recognize that the law of cause and effect governs everything, and therefore, day after day, it sows folly and reaps misery.

85. The white magician devotes his life to study, meditation and service, in order to know the laws of the forces and to direct them toward appointed objectives. He adapts himself to the Plan, integrates its divine rhythm by sacrificing himself and, abdicating his desires, submits himself to the will of the Infinite, asking only to be told what his duty is and how to be most useful to the greatest number.

86. On the contrary, the black magician locks himself up in his belief that he knows well what he needs, when in reality he only knows what he desires. He tries to mold the Plan to his own desires. He is convinced that the whole Universe expects him to stand out from all his fellows, when in reality the Cosmic Whole ignores that he exists apart from his role as a mere atom marching along with myriads of other analogues toward an appointed end.

Let us now see how the magician, with his knowledge of the invisible, operates with the invisible forces of Nature. In the first place, the student must impress upon his mind the fact that the wise man always tries to know what Nature expects of him, while the arrogant man always knows and tries to force her to act according to his own desires.

THE POWER OF CHOICE

God's greatest gift to man and the cause of all suffering: the hope of immortality.

The Fruit of Black Magic: The Left Path

Those who have adopted this path (No. 1) have accepted that their immortal spirits must be subjected to their lower bodies, embedding themselves in a denser and denser materiality and entangling their consciousness more and more in matter. If this practice is persisted in, the spirit will not be able to disengage itself from the matter of the lower worlds, in which it will remain bound until the dissolution of the universe when the night of Brahma will come, when the divine spark will be cast into the darkness of infinity through the rings of Saturn. By following this path the ego reaches the darkness, but it will be the darkness of the grave and of unconsciousness, attained through the rings of Saturn after a journey of perversion and denial. Their reward is black death, the loss of the soul. Such egos wander in the unknown without hope, reason or understanding, while the gears of Chaos are dissolving the bodies of which they did not know how to make proper use.

The Fruit of White Magic: The Right-Hand Path

By treading this path (No. 3), the spirit identifies with those who aspire to liberate the divine essence from their bodies and turn them into servants instead of masters. The consciousness disengages itself from matter with a spiral movement, acting in ever more subtle means, until it manages to free itself totally from form and consciously attains resurrection. It thus acquires the power to shape matter into whatever forms are necessary for its work. It passes through the world of spirit and penetrates into what man can only know as darkness. Light is an emanation- form, and when we penetrate into the divine Presence, we penetrate into the Omnipotent Darkness. It is the divine Shadow, over which we have perfect dominion and which contains within itself all things in latent potentiality.

We become twinned with the dark cause, the matrix of light, and become architects of the cosmic scheme…
